Borgo in luce

Borgo in luce

3TI, following the award of the so called “Borgo in luce” design contest called by the Municipality of Cava dè Tirreni in 2006, in partnership with architects Alberto Barone and Maurizio Fabbricatore, has carried on the job for the completion of the works. The project requires a careful reading of the Borgo (village) of Cava dè Tirreni: a long axis that runs across the city, an urban cross-section on which buildings are outlined, but at the same time a system which public dimension extends horizontally. From a technological point of view, the key point becomes the renewal of the façades and arcades from all existing systems and the replacement with a single wiring that, starting from the new cable duct, which runs at the centre of the main street, branches off to each block to serve the new enlightened bodies with four different lines. From the observations previously reported, derives the choice to underline the alternation of the arch-column elements offering in this way a harmonious perspective to the valuable promenade along the arcades. This perspective axis has been obtained placing particular equipment on top of the capital to obtain an effect of oblique light over the all arch. A second purpose of the design has been to remove the lighting excesses to favour instead a diffused visual comfort, carrying out a proper selection of the enlightened bodies choosing equipment able to combine high technology and efficiency and maximum respect for the historical-traditional value. Another important aspect has been the development of commercial activities; it has been foreseen the removal of the existing cumbersome projectors characterized by an unpleasant visual impact and a high-energy waste. Road lighting has been another important matter to take into consideration. The current traditional lanterns are low efficient and loose the light beam in all directions; they lack any optic device apt to channel the light beam downwards, they conceal the sky vault and betray the spirit of Van Gogh. The idea is to replace them with wall lanterns equipped with applique arm, placed at 5,50m from the ground with a 10m- centre to centre distance and quincunx arrangement. The use of such equipment will enable to study the possible integration of acoustic devices (stereophonic boxes) for the various cultural events that the city organizes throughout the year. Even from the surveillance point of view there is a project underway aimed at equipping all lanterns with closed circuit cameras to guarantee urban security. Moreover, at its final stage, the project foresees the possibility to enlighten the various architectural profiles located along the main street, such as the former Prefecture and the church of the Purgatorio, through the use of new lighting technics that enable to emphasize the beauty of the architectural details concealing the systems employed.
