Seismic approval for the construction of the Municipal Library in Via della Lega Lombarda at the ex ATAC SpA depot

3TI Progetti received the seismic approval for the construction of the Municipal Library in Via della Lega Lombarda at the ex ATAC SpA depot.
The building is part of an urban regeneration project called #cittàdelsole designed by Labics – located in the eastern sector of the urban area of Rome, between Via Tiburtina, Via della lega Lombarda, Via Arduino and the Tiburtina station square – largely completed in 2016, except for the library which is an integral part of the project and in some ways its distinctive and distinguishing element.
The design of the library pursued two main goals: first, the desire to preserve the existing building’s industrial atmosphere, and second, the wish to make this library an example of what a 21st century library can and should be.
The technical choices to achieve these objectives were basically two:
– all spaces in the new library will be as open, bright, transparent as possible;
– the organization of space has followed the logic of maximum flexibility, i.e. a space that can be easily reconfigured in use without changing its structure.
The new library will consist of two levels, a ground floor, which corresponds in fact to the current one, and a new mezzanine floor for a total of approximately 1,560 square meters inside and 35 square meters outside (patio).
