SP29 Provincial road extension

The Municipality of #Sortino (#Sicily) just approved the detailed design of the ‘Extension of the downhill road of Via I Maggio’ project, for which 3TI Progetti is leader in JV with STRAFER INGEGNERIA.

The city center of Sortino is in fact devoid of any ring roads or alternative routes suitable for being considered proper escape routes in case of natural disasters, particularly earthquakes.

In order to respond to the above-mentioned lack of road infrastructure in a large part of the built-up area, a link road has been planned between via Carlentini and the SP29 Sortino-Ficarazzi provincial road, the construction of which would allow vehicles to pass immediately through the entire south-western area of the town, which is currently the most affected in terms of road conditions, towards the northern area of the town, where almost all the waiting and reception areas are located.

The infrastructure project consists in the extension of via I Maggio to the intersection with the provincial road 23 Sortino-Ficarazzi – for a total length of 594.11 m – through the construction of
– a linear ground-level junction near the junction of the new project route with Via I Maggio;
– a complete extension of the Via I Maggio road up to the junction with the Sortino- Ficarazzi SP road;
– a small roundabout;
– a level intersection near the junction with SP23.
