Napoli Porta Est Intermodal Hub
Our “Design Stories” series continues with a focus on a visionary urban regeneration project: the Napoli Porta Est Intermodal Hub.
The project follows the international design competition launched in 2023, which saw our team selected as one of the five finalists in early 2024. This ambitious proposal addresses the redevelopment of former railway areas and the creation of the new Regione Campania Headquarters, aiming to reconnect a fragmented urban sector by 2030. The masterplan transforms abandoned yards into a vibrant space where mobility and social interaction coexist through a vertical campus model.
Our design integrates a landmark tower reaching 129 meters in height, serving as a territorial reference point for the city of Naples. The intervention reimagines approximately 180,000 square meters of urban space, incorporating sustainable solutions like a 12,000 cubic meter artificial lake for rainwater management. Developed as a Zero Carbon Headquarter, the project targets LEED Platinum certification, aligning with the European environmental goals for a resilient future.
At the core of the proposal is the strategic axis known as the Chilometro Azzurro, a monumental portal designed to bridge the hub, the railway station, and the surrounding public areas. This infrastructure is not just a building but a definitive step towards a new urban centre for the Regione Campania.
