Design Stories: Red Line South Underground, Doha Metro

Our Design Stories series continues with the Red Line South Underground, part of the metro network that transformed Doha’s urban mobility and connectivity.

3TI Progetti served as Lead Designer, for the Red Line South Underground, which includes five underground stations, four along the Red Line and one along the Green Line, connecting Msheireb Underground Station with the New Doha International Airport.

Built at an average depth of 25 metres, the project includes 13.8 km of twin TBM tunnels, five switchboxes, four underground emergency exits and 35 cross passages. The stations were designed through BIM, and Al Doha Al Jadeda was selected as one of the pilot stations of Phase 1, becoming a benchmark for the integrated design of civil works, MEP and railway systems.

The network has strengthened connections across the city, making public transport more accessible and efficient while supporting Doha’s urban development and its capacity to host major international events, including the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022.

We are proud to have to this strategic infrastructure project, an example of integrated design for a highly complex underground system, from the early design stages through to its implementation, supporting the development of a more connected and efficient public transport network for Doha.
