The development plan of the “University Polo dei Rizzi” concerns the expansion of the Humanities Library, new Research Laboratories for the medical area, a new seat for the Department of Legal Sciences and a new Multifunctional Library for the university center.
The ongoing project of the multi-purpose library responds to the need to implement the extension of the University Campus with the provision of a new Cultural Center functionally related to the context and to the interior spaces. The new building will be characterized as a place of socialization even in its outdoor green and paved areas. The Library building has a rectangular shape in which the internal spaces are positioned around the large central hall and are distributed above ground for the next 3 floors. The central hall is a flexible and multifunctional space that can be used as a reading room, conference and convention hall with a maximum capacity of 300 seats. Two consultation rooms and an area for temporary events are positioned along the north-west side with independent access from the outdoor area. At the side of one of the two entrances to the hall an external staircase allows access to the raised square, an outdoor area open to students. Three patios act as a filter-path from the building to the external area. The building is designed as an architectural envelope capable to control the internal microclimate, acoustics, natural lighting of places, ensuring energy savings through the use of renewable energies. The outdoor spaces in closer proximity to the Library’s volume have been organized to ensure the access also to people with reduced mobility.
