E90 HIGHWAY: S.S. 106 JONICA

3TI has supported Anas in the Definitive Design of Mega lot 2, that represents the strengthening of the supporting structure of the viability network of the Province of Catanzaro and in particular – the new SS 106 Jonica for the north-south links – The extension of SS 280, known as the “two seas”, for east-west links. The intervention is included between the strategic infrastructures identified by no. 121 Ministerial Committee for Economic Programming decision of 21/12/2001 – The so called: 1st Program of strategic infrastructures.  The project is foreseen within the “General Framework Agreement – Road Infrastructure Plan Agreement for the Region Calabria” drawn up by the Presidency of the Council of Ministers, the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport, the Ministry for Environment and Territory and Sea and the Region of Calabria on May 16th 2002, where it indicates at point “Highway and road corridors” the completion of E90 Jonic Highway (Lecce – Taranto – Sibari – Reggio Calabria). Typology: main extra urban road (type B) with project speed that varies between 70 to 120 km/h. The Jonic layout extends in a hill territory with varying heights, between 200 and 800m, ploughed by various scratches and valleys. The orography forces a strong incidence of works, 13 bridges and viaducts, 10 natural tunnels and an artificial tunnel are foreseen. The incidence of tunnel sections compared to open-air sections is close to 50% of the entire development of 17+200,00 km. The SS 280 layout extends along the Corace river valley, in the municipality of Catanzaro, on the left bank of the river, at a height included between 5 and 8 m.The project focused on the technical design, Environmental Impact Assessment and on transportation study.
