ITER – Cadarache Centre

ITER – Cadarache Centre

The International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor is currently the most ambitious experimental project globally. It aims to provide a concrete
response to the current environmental and energy crisis, trying to demonstrate the scientific and technological feasibility of controlled nuclear fusion to produce electricity.
It represents an epochal scientific and engineering challenge that aims to help the climate by marking a break with current nuclear power plants. The complex will generate 500 MW aiming for steady-state operation. Currently, the Cadarche Complex is the 1st nuclear fusion reactor in which plasma is confined in a magnetic field being created in a building called Tokomak. The whole project is centered around the “Tokomak Building”, a machine/building made up of more than ten million components.
It is there that the fusion reaction will be reproduced and controlled, which should produce energy without substantial problems of fuel or slag.
