Lanzo – Santa Margherita funicular refurbishment

3TI PROGETTI, in charge of feasibility study for restoration of Lanzo-Santa Margherita Funicular, carried out a first inspection on June 3rd, after covid lock-down that jeopardized the project. The line, which has been closed for 46 years, has still shown good conditions of permanent way, but need a full revamping of systems and rolling stocks. Several will be the substantial activities for an efficient refurbishment, but the aim is to achieve a theoretical capacity of about 400 passengers per hour, with at least five trips, in both directions, every 60 minutes. By this way the cable railway will be used as local public transport by residents travelling to Lugano for work as well as an incentive for touristic activity.
